Cooperative shark tagging with a commercial gillnet fisher

Assessment of a data-limited, multi-species shark fishery in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and south-east Queensland

Fisheries Research

This publication was an output of FRDC Project No 2010 / 006 that investigated fishing mortality on sharks in Queensland through the use of conventional tagging. In the original report, the effects of fishing were evaluated through a simple demographic analysis. This paper further developed the analysis by using a more complex equilibrium model to calculate biomass-based reference points for five species. Reference points were compared against empirical tag-recapture rates to provide an indication of stock status.
